More than 1,100 fairs, festivals and events are receiving support through BC’s Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport.
Applications for the 2024 intake opened earlier this year after minister Lana Popham announced a $15 million in one-time grants to eligible events.
The deadline was Feb. 25, however, the province received an overwhelming demand.
“To ensure every eligible applicant received funding, an additional $5 million in Tourism Events Program funding was provided, totaling $20 million for events in BC,” the province said.
The funding will go towards events happening this year and in 2025.
A total of 33 events in Kelowna and six events in WestKelowna received a total of $981,800.
Some of the big ticket events in Kelowna that received funding include the following:
Canadian Country Music Week – $200,000
Montana’s Brier 2025 – $185,700
Denim on the Diamond – $108,000
Boots n Brews Festival – $101,200
Rock the Lake – $86,400
STIHL TIMBERSPORTS National Championships – $33,400
Kelowna Beer Fest – $25,800
Other events include the Fireside Festival, the 2025 Welcome to Paradise Para Snowboard World Cup, Kelowna Ribfest, Kelowna’s Canada Day festival, the local Pride Festival and New York New Years.
West Kelowna’s Westside Daze received $18,800 in funding while the annual Music in the Park event received $9,200 in funding.
Other events include the Okanagan Wildfire Responders Gratitude Event ($3,500), Okanagan Feast of Fields ($2,000), VegFest ($2,000) and Westside Multiculturalism Day ($2,000).
