More than 1,100 fairs, festivals and events are receiving support through BC’s Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport.
Applications for the 2024 intake opened earlier this year after minister Lana Popham announced a $15 million in one-time grants to eligible events.
The deadline was Feb. 25, however, the province received an overwhelming demand.
“To ensure every eligible applicant received funding, an additional $5 million in Tourism Events Program funding was provided, totaling $20 million for events in BC,” the province said.
The funding will go towards events happening this year and in 2025.
A total of 32 events in Kamloops received a total of $329,00.
Some of the big ticket events that received funding include the following:
T'kemlups 2 Rivers Remix Festival – $53,900
Beauty and the Beast musical – $45,7000
2025 National Aboriginal Hockey Championships – $22,200
29th Annual Kamloops Film Festival – $22,000
43rd Annual Kamloopa Powwow – $20,700
Other events that received funding include the 2024 FireFit World and Canadian Championships, Kamloops Flavor Festopia, the 2024 Canada Day festival, the Kamloops Wine Festival, Oktoberfest 2024, the Children's Arts Festival 2024 and the 2024 BC Summer Provincial Championships.
