Big Mac for a big cause: Today is the 30th annual McHappy Day

It’s been three decades of McHappy Days and the positive impact continues to grow each year.

In 2023, the annual fundraiser brought in more than $7.5 million in support of Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) and other local children’s charities across Canada.

The chance to top that total today as the 30th McHappy Day takes place from coast to coast.

The logistics of McHappy Day are simple; a portion of the proceeds from all food and drinks purchased at McDonald’s on Wednesday will support these important Canadian charities.

Ronald McDonald Houses nationwide are a place for families of sick children to stay when they need to be in a certain major hub for hospital treatment.

Since the first Ronald McDonald House opened in Toronto in 1981, fundraising programs like McHappy Day, McDonald’s largest charity-driven program, have helped support more than 468,000 Canadian families.

“The impact of RMHC is far-reaching, with one in four Canadians having received support from RMHC or knowing someone who has,” explained a McHappy Day press release.

There are other ways to support the initiative apart from food and drink purchases on Wednesday as well, including the purchase of McHappy Day socks or hearts through donations at participating restaurants.

In addition, the fast-food giant has teamed up with Peace Collective for a snazzy merch line, with a portion of the proceeds from those sales also supporting RMHC.

So head to McDonald's for a cheat meal, or even just treat yourself to a hot beverage or McFlurry as a treat, and know that it will go to support sick children and their families across Canada.
